By Chris Lane
During this rather bleak time of year, there is no genus that can brighten your garden like Hamamelis. In this thorough and descriptive book about witch hazels, Chris Lane describes the genus as a whole, its four species, as well as most of the hybrids and cultivars in existence. This Royal Horticultural Society Plant Collector Guide is the most complete book on witch hazels written in English. This book is useful for its complete descriptions, the expert cultivation advice from Chris Lane, and for the over 100 color plates that show the variety of sizes and colors among the witch hazels. Chris Lane visited our witch hazel collection at Scott last March to view our extensive collection. Come to the Scott Horticultural library and review this book before visiting our witch hazel collection here at the Arboretum. Our Hamamelis collection can be found around the Women’s Resource Center, Olde Club, and Kitao Student Art Gallery. And don’t forget to come to the guided tour “Witch hazels and Early Spring Blooms” on Saturday, March 7 from 1-2:30.
